Okur an All-Star

Congrats to Mehmet Okur. The NBA announced tonight that he and Ray Allen are the latest replacements to join the Western All-Star team. David Stern has the one and only vote to decide injury replacements. No question that he has made a good decision with the selection of Memo.

This is important for one reason. The Jazz as an organization need to show that great play will not go unnoticed, despite the fact that they play in a small market. The league, and the media alike, have taken notice of the stellar play of both Boozer and Memo.

The Jazz can show future free agents that if they sign with the Jazz, recognition will be there as long as they play well. Having the two highest profile free agent signings of the last ten years go to the All-Star game goes a long ways toward proving that point.

ESPN and numerous other sources have reported that MVP Steve Nash won’t participate in the upcoming All-Star game. Though I’ve already defended a wish shared by many others that no Jazzmen should participate, Williams will likely be a contender to replace either Nash or Allen Iverson.

Don’t mind the Jazz getting forgotten

Carlos Boozer was rightfully selected by the coaches as an All-Star representative for the Utah Jazz, who continue to lead their division after solid victories after contenders. With Boozer out and neither Mehmet Okur or Deron Williams chosen, the team now has zero players participating in the game. As the Jazz have a 7-2 record against top teams in the west, fans should have expected somebody would deserve to represent the team.
