BOOZER OUT!

Posted by McSean on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 @ 12:31pm

The Jazz have announced today that Carlos Boozer has a hairline fracture on his left fibula. He is expected to miss at least a month, maybe more. He sustained the injury during the first quarter of last weeks loss to the Hornets when he bumped knees with Tyson Chandler. What a blow.

This makes things very, very rough on the Jazz over the next four weeks. They have played .500 ball with him for the last six weeks, and things only look to get uglier with him out.

While this is simply awful news for the Jazz, the timing could not have been better. With the Allstar game coming the Jazz only play 12 games over the course of the next four weeks. Things are tough with San Antonio and Phoenix the next two games, but then they play four straight at home against Eastern Conference teams – all games the Jazz should be favored in, with or without Boozer.

The Jazz could and probably should maintain .500 basketball while the beast is out.

That’s a bummer. I broke my left fibula playing ball a few years back. The good news is it’s a minor deal–no cast or anything. You just have to wait on it to heal and pop some Advil or whatever to ease the pain when it flares up.

The ominous thing is, two-thirds of the future of this franchise are injury-prone. AK and Boozer look great on paper, but will they ever be able to last a full season or close to it without missing significant chunks due to injury?
