A Predictable Loss

With this years Jazz team, it is never easy to predict a loss, but last night was a perfect scenario for them to come up short. The Jazz have been hot as a pistol to start the season. They just completed an emotional win over the Lakers, with a nice boost from Kirilenko. They were playing the second night of a back to back on the road against a team playing without its best player, Baron Davis, out with injury. It was the perfect game for a Jazz letdown and they delivered just that, a letdown.

No biggie, if it makes anyone feel better, this was actually a good loss. As good as the Jazz are, they were not going to win 81 games. It is a long season and losses happen from time to time. The important thing is that they regroup for this week when they play Orlando and San Antonio at home and the Lakers on the road in the second night of a back to back with the Spurs, followed by the Sonics at home. It is a tough week.

I will be happy if the Jazz go 2-2 this week, but 3-1 is definitely within reach. It has been a tough stretch with six games in nine nights. The only must win game is against Orlando. That game is incredibly important because they are a better team and they are playing at the ESA. In the long run, games like this really matter. Then they have got to at least split a tough back to back in the games with the Spurs and Lakers. Winning one of these games will be good for their psyche.

If I had my way, and the Jazz could only win two of the games, I would choose for the Jazz to win at home against the Magic and Spurs. I just think that beating San Antonio would really legitimize the hot start for the Jazz. At this point in the season, building a psychological edge is most important.

Last nights game, i thought was a good time for the jazz to lose. The warriors probably aren’t a team the jazz will be close to in the final standings, so that game won’t have a large impact later in the season, this week we need to show that this 12-2 record is legit!! we need to beat orlando, dropping 2 straight could really slow us down, then we got the spurs that would be a HUGE win, then it would be awesome to take it to those lakers in the staples center, then we got back here again seattle, its overall a tough week but i think we go 3-1 and drop one in LA(but hopefully not). I personally think AK has taken our offense out of its rhythm, we were 5-0 with him out and averaged 112.2 points in that time, with him back we are 1-1 averaging 96 points, i know this only shows a seven game stretch but watching the jazz with AK in its like we are playing 4 on 5 when we are playing offense. The defense knows that they can drop down another defender to double Booz or stop DW’s penetration. I know AK provides some awesome defense and gets a ton of block, but we need him to step it up on offense. PS i think the KG trade is awesome, hey mcsean congrats on your cougs W, but we’ll be back next year

Losing to the Warriors was about as justified as the Cougars would have been if they lost to a second-tier program like the Utes.

Anyway, while I agree that it’s better the Jazz lose now and take the rest of the weeks seriously, I’m still surprised that the team shot 32%. Even against a stifling zone, the Warriors are poor defenders (as we saw when they gave up 140 regulation points to the Nuggets). Add the fact that the Warriors were playing without several of their top players…the Jazz really shouldn’t have lost.

We’ll see how they bounce back against Orlando, San Antonio, and the Lakers. The Jazz will be seeing a lot more of the zone now, and I’m guessing the team will struggle this week. 2-2 is my guess, but I don’t want to jump off the Jazz bandwagon just because of one loss.
